My Five bits of Advice to Newly-Hired Graduates
Starting a new day as an employee after college is an exciting experience. To help you enjoy your process here are my bits of learning from my 1st year working as a professional.
- Discover
Working is a new phase of life. This is the true journey that will introduce you to a lot of people and cases. This is a free learning course that will help you understand more about your company, its service, and everything related to your company. Free your cup and keep learning as you do your work. Spend a little bit more time to understand about your company so that you know where or who to ask if you need something and how to respond to others.
2. Invest, Learn, and Earn
Investing might not be taught in your classes during college. However, investing concept is an important thing you need to understand so that you can secure your future better. Do not spend all of your earnings merely on foods, garments or social activities. If your earning is not that much yet, it is always better to invest it in things that will help you leverage your skill such as courses, certification or books.
3. Don't Be Afraid
At some point, you will feel inferior to see your colleague's and senior’s skill. Or maybe you start to think that you are not qualified enough to execute some particular task. Keep in mind that this is your first year and it is the right time to make mistakes. Do everything you think right and learn from it. Making mistakes is common and acceptable. But, do not do mistakes twice.
4. Connect
Remember that everyone is worth it and you might need some help in the future. No matter how introverted you are, at some point, you will connect to them for business. So, be friendly, make friends and enjoy social activities at work.
5. Respect
Respecting others is a non-negotiable price at work. Everyone is worth regardless of their role. Never underestimate others and show your respect to anyone. Because if you respect others, they will respect you back.
