The unicorn is known as a startup with a valuation exceeding a billion-dollar mark (or even multi-billion in few cases). The list is as follows:

  1. Gojek

This company first known for its ride-hailing service. By the time, it expanded to food delivery, couriers, shopping and many others. In addition, it is now has e-wallet service known as Go-Pay and become fourth-biggest in the country. Gojek is the only company in Indonesia who have received “Decacorn” status, a term given to a company valued over $10 billion USD.

Gojek was founded by Nadiem Makarim who is currently s as serve the Minister of Education and Culture.

2. Tokopedia

Tokopedia is an online marketplace founded by William Tanuwidjaja. Its mission is to democratize commerce through technology. The company has millions registered merchants and curated products. Lately, it received $350 million USD investment from Google and Temasek.

3. Traveloka

Traveloka is a company that focuses on providing tickets and hotel services. It was started as a single service flight reservation. However, to date, the service has expanded to train, bus, movie, concert, restaurant vouchers, and many other.

4. Ovo

This company is a digital payment service known as PT Visionet International. It is a fintech company with a presence in over 373 cities and administrative regencies in Indonesia. It has more than 700.000 participating merchants all over Indonesia. The customer can transfer funds, do online payments or top up billing. Lately, the app even provides investment services.

5. Bukalapak

This startup was founded by Achmad Zaki, Nugroho Herucahyono and Fajrin Rasyid. It was founded in 2010 and to date, it has already has more than 70 million users and it is now estimated to have reached US $2.5 billion valuation.

6. JD.ID

JD.ID is the sixth startup in Indonesia to received unicorn status. This company is also an e-commerce startup that provides online shopping service.
